Big advocates of citizens expressing their right to vote, Moonshine Ink chose to bring the local elections of 2016 to our readers in new media fashion. We filmed 60-second spots from every candidate in a contested Tahoe/Truckee race, with the exception of those candidates who chose not to participate. Candidates were allowed to use the 60 seconds however they chose — but they had to stick to the time. Below, we highlight a statement from each film spot that stood out to our team. Check out the full videos and be sure to share them as well.
Jeff Bender — incumbent
“The past eight years have been challenging but very worthwhile for what we have accomplished at the Truckee Donner PUD. We now have almost 50 percent in renewable power, [and] have reduced water production by 40 percent, and our greenhouse gas footprint by 65 percent.”
Bob Ellis — incumbent
“I think things are looking very good on the financial side because we are increasing our reserves and we are reducing our debt. We have not increased any new debt on the system and we are looking very good on that side.”
Jim Hemig
“I’m a Truckee business owner and my wife and I started our business in Truckee 23 years ago … I have had an opportunity to run businesses the size of our PUD. I have experience keeping costs down that would translate to keeping rates in check.”
