Reno’s Artown receives NEA Grant
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) granted $20,000 to Artown for its 2009 festival, one of only two grants awarded to Nevada-based organizations. The one-year Access to Artistic Excellence grant will help Artown bring a diverse array of arts and culture to Reno through the entire month of July. ‘Funding for the arts is threatened as a result of the country’s current economic situation, and competition for dollars has increased, so for Artown to receive this financial award is a fantastic acknowledgement of the festival’s value to arts in Nevada and on a national level,’ said Beth Macmillan, Artown executive director. With more than 350 events each July, Artown was noted by the NEA as one of the most comprehensive art festivals in the country. RenoIsArtown.com, 775-322-1538.
