I’ve been enjoying the recent rain showers. Who needs Lake Tahoe with the water in Prosser Reservoir at an all-time high? Not only is the water high but lately we have been observing American White Pelicans. The other morning we saw at least seven or eight. My knee rehabilitation is going well and finally I have been getting a chance to swim. When I get home after a good session in the water, I can barely jump high enough to get on the bed.
I got stiff on that bed but I did manage to get up and visit some friends at the Humane Society’s adoption day. It was a dreary rainy day where volunteers outnumbered potential adopters but it didn’t rain on my parade. Last month’s friend, Noche, has found a nice home. I’ve even seen him jogging around my neighborhood. At the shelter I met some cool, wet dogs and cats. Honey Girl is a sweetheart Heeler mix. I also met Beauty, who looks like a cross between an Akita and a Hyena (I mean that in a good way) and Diva, a Pug mix with attitude. For the past few months a big fella named Noodles has been at the shelter. I promised Noodles last month that we would hang out together. This month I delivered on that promise.
Noodles is a big mix of Rottweiler, Shepherd, and who knows what. I won’t hold it against him. We still don’t know what breeds my parents were. The only thing that is certain is that they were a handsome pair. I imagine a canine version of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Noodles is about 3 years old and has been at the shelter for a few months. Nobody likes being stuck at the shelter but it has given Noodles some time to become a more refined gentleman. He now knows some basic commands and isn’t so jumpy all time.
We spent some time with Noodles in the play yard and also went for a nice stroll. Noodles isn’t a ball dog. You can throw the ball all you want and he’s just not interested. He likes to play with friends but he is still learning how that works. I think when Noodles finds his forever home he’ll have time to get more comfortable and work on his play skills. He doesn’t misbehave. He just has no idea how playing works. He does like to watch other dogs play and occasionally will sneak in and nip another dog on the butt. We took Noodles down to the Truckee River and he was a pleasure. He’s a big boy and I was looking forward to watching him pull my person all over the trail. Noodles didn’t pull him at all. He didn’t even need a harness, just walks nicely on a leash. That’s nice but couldn’t you have dragged him at least a little bit?
Noodles is a dapper young gentleman. He’s big so we don’t recommend him for homes with kids under 10 years old. If you are looking for a big cuddly boy to snuggle up with this summer give Noodles a try.
The economy has been affecting dogs, cats and people these past few months and HSTT is doing something about it. Recently some animals have been turned in for financial reasons. We would much rather have our friends in good homes so we are helping out with the Pet Pantry. The Pet Pantry collects pet food around our area and distributes it to needy pets. One of the biggest supporters of the program has been Glenshire Elementary. Those kids really love animals. For the past few months they have been collecting food and volunteering with HSTT. We have a little person at our house and I’ve already decided to send her to Glenshire when she is old enough. Other great partners include Mickey’s Pet Stop, Pet Station and Scraps Dog Bakery. Our barrels are available at these locations, so drop an extra can of food in the barrel while you are there. If you are in need please contact HSTT. This community has been very generous and we appreciate it.
