On April 7, the Truckee Town Council presented a proclamation for Earth Day to Jeremy Linder of the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) District 3.

Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22 to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote action toward climate resilience, resource conservation, and protection of ecosystems.

In September 2025, the Town of Truckee was designated as a “Clean California Community” through Caltrans Clean CA Initiative. This designation highlights Truckee’s efforts in reducing litter, enhancing public spaces, and fostering community pride around sustainability.

Truckee was among the first 30 communities across the state to receive a Clean California Community designation. To honor this recognition, a “Clean California Community” sign has been hung at the entrance to town hall.

The Clean California Designation Community program is part of a larger Clean CA effort that started in 2021, which has helped to beautify communities throughout the state. This has included removing more than 3.5 million cubic yards of trash within the last five years.

Earth Day celebrations will continue at the region’s largest Earth Day Festival, happening on Saturday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in The Village at Palisades Tahoe. This free, family-friendly event offers activities for all ages, with opportunities to learn about recycling, composting, alternative energy, and sustainable living in the Tahoe/Truckee region.
