Play Steinberg’s work explores the question, “what does it take to heal, and how far are you willing to go?” Turning their skills, earned from years as a visual facilitator and scribe, inwards, Play wrestles with stories of “mental illness” and inner gifts. Their recently completed webcomic, FATHER. MOTHER. GOD., is a poetic story of trauma, addiction, and suicide loss, and also explores Play’s relationship with the divine.
But Play’s real medium is not drawing; rather, it’s the raw material of lived experience. In all of Play’s work, they seek to draw out and express what they call our “sacred imagination.” By listening deeply to — and representing — Play’s own life, their art works for the benefit of self and others.
