Artist Bio: I am from a coastal region an hour and a half south of Melbourne, Australia, and started coming to the U.S. about 13 years ago as a seasonal ski resort worker. I’ve been based in Truckee for the last three years and when not knitting, I can be found working at Bespoke and Atelier, or walking my dogs with camera in hand taking photos as @itisstillabeautifulworld.
Work Info: My mum is a textile artist, and the importation of silks and other textiles into Melbourne was my family’’s business for another three generations before that. Textiles and creativity are in my genes. I’ve been a practicing photographer for more than 20 years and always loved the relationships between colors. I decided to pick up knitting needles just over a year ago and as soon as I began it felt like something I was born to do, with color combinations being one of the aspects that gets me most excited. All the knitwear I sell is designed by me, knit on a small knitting machine at my house, and then stitched and woven by hand. Even when I hand knit a piece for personal use from other designers’ patterns, I can’t help but go freestyle and add a little weaving where I can.
