About the Artist
Abigail Lee Penfold has been interested in art since she was a child, and has continued to pursue her passion. Originally from Buffalo, N.Y., she attended the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, focused on drawing and painting, and received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in 2011. After undergraduate school, she made her way out West to explore the mountains, living in Utah and Oregon before making Truckee her home. An avid snowboarder, she maintained a relationship with art, working at a pottery studio, teaching art to school children, and participating in other local art events.
Eventually Penfold found a painting assistantship in Truckee with world renown trompe l’oeil artist John Pugh. She continued to paint, learn about, and install large scale, realistic murals for two years before moving on to concentrate on her own work. Two examples of her mural work can be seen in Truckee at Marty’s Cafe and at Studio Tahoe, a yoga studio.
Currently she has focused on commissions, murals, oil paintings, and, most recently, pyrography (wood burnings). More of Penfold’s work can be seen on her website, abigailpenfold.com, and purchased at Gallery5830 in downtown Truckee or on Etsy at ALPfineart.
