What’s Ripe Now: Sweet Roots Farm is transitioning from cool spring to warm season crops. We’re harvesting greens like cabbage, collards, kale, chard, arugula, lettuce, and dandelion greens; roots like daikon, carrots, beets, turnips, and kohlrabi; zucchini, garlic, fennel, parsley, cilantro, dill, cut flowers, and most recently, cucumbers and new potatoes.

What’s Sprouting Next: Sweet Roots sits in a cool spot of Nevada County so we’re waiting for our little green cherry tomatoes to turn golden and full of sweet and tart flavors.

Favorite Bloom: Cardoons, a relative of artichokes that we use for cut flowers, are flowering now. Their ultraviolet blooms attract many bee species that bury themselves deep inside in search of nectar.
