The Young Family – Gary, Misty and Kay – hosted a gathering in Glenshire, on June 23, participating in the second annual Get To Know Your Neighbor Day. This one-day event, a pot luck or barbeque icebreaker, is meant to help people to well, get to know their neighbors. This movement began with the Conscious Community Network (CCN) in Reno just last year, and is quickly gaining momentum. Through their Internet site and pre-arranged teleconferences with interested citizens they have been able to organize citizens across the county to get out and connect with their neighbors on this day. This year more than 2,000 people were involved in this community-building event and CCN founder, Richer Flyer, has a dream of going global next year. Peace in the world begins at home, no?

Misty said, via email, ‘Guests invited were from our own street, and four adjoining streets and we had a pretty good cross section of people here. IT WAS SO COOL!

Everyone updated a map of the neighborhood with people and pet names and contact information. We’re going to send out a little directory to help everyone get better connected. It was so much fun, we’ve already decided we’re going to do it every year, the start of a new annual tradition.’
