The Town of Truckee declared a State of Emergency for the January 7 to 12, 2017 storm system and anticipates declaring a second State of Emergency for the February 6 to 11, 2017 storm. Based on damages to residences and businesses that occurred during these two emergency declaration periods, Nevada County may be eligible for a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) emergency declaration. An emergency declaration by the SBA would enable individuals and businesses to apply for SBA’s low interest disaster loan program.
The Town of Truckee and Nevada County Office of Emergency Services (OES) are reaching out to potentially-impacted residents and businesses to determine if the County has enough impacted parties for SBA eligibility.
Provided below is information on the criteria for an SBA emergency declaration:
Physical Disaster Declaration: At least 25 homes and/or businesses or other eligible institutions in a disaster area each sustain uninsured losses of at least 40 percent or more of the estimated fair replacement value or pre-disaster fair market value of the damaged property.
Economic Injury Disaster Declaration: At least five small businesses in a disaster area have suffered substantial economic injury as a result of the disaster.
NOTE: Substantial economic injury means the business is unable to meet its obligations and to pay its ordinary and necessary operating expenses. EIDLs provide the necessary working capital to help small businesses survive until normal operations resume after a disaster.
