Caltrans is alerting motorists traveling in the Truckee/Tahoe area to expect delays on Highway 89 between Truckee and Tahoe City as roadway rehabilitation operations are taking place. One-way traffic controls are in effect around the clock from 8 p.m. on Sundays to noon on Fridays. For the first time since 2011, the highway is getting paved. Work is anticipated to be completed by Oct. 15.

To avoid traveling through work zones, it is advised that motorists take alternate routes by using Highway 267 and Highway 28 to travel between Interstate 80 and Truckee to Lake Tahoe destinations.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the traffic queue or the construction work. Caltrans will issue traffic updates on this and other work occurring in District 3 on Twitter and Facebook.

Use Caltrans’ QuickMap for real-time traffic information or download the QuickMap app on iTunes or Google Play. Motorists can also use the California Highway Information Network (CHIN) automated phone service by calling 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
