Publisher’s Note
Famous for his wit and focus on universal laws, Voltaire once said, ‘A good way to be boring is to say everything.’
This reveals the basic brainteaser when crafting a news publication in today’s world: How do news rags balance being truly informative while keeping readers’ interest at the same time?
From the get-go, Moonshine Ink was dedicated to being informative. Many of you may remember that while we had solid info in our first editions, some stories were akin to reading the minutes of six-hour public meetings. In fact, some of it actually was.
It took years of creative brainstorming and careful crafting to develop the format of today’s Moonshine Ink. The process is ever evolving and the crew (listed on p.5) works hard on all fronts.
One of the key tools we use to be interesting and easy to follow is graphic design. Just in time for spring, the season for new things, we are proud to present our spanking new Moonshine Ink print design! Our goal was to create a clean, fresh design that is fun to read and information-rich. Applause and thanks go to Alyson Stetz, our graphic designer, who led the redesign charge.
After four years with Moonshine, Alyson is on her way overseas to get a master’s degree in textile design. With this redesign, she leaves a legacy here in Truckee/Tahoe. Farewell and good luck, Alyson!
As you read the first-rate reporting this month, be it the piece about raging waters and kayaking (p. 28), the comprehensive guide to choosing a school for your child (p. 22), the kerfuffle at TRPA (p. 14), the best tacos in the area (p. 42), or Tahoe’s new book publisher (p. 44), take note of how you respond to the new design. Then drop me a line and let me know what you think: melegado@moonshineink.com.
As always,
