Election 2010
Tahoe City Public Utility District formed in 1938 to provide water service for Tahoe City residents, but district boundaries now extend over 31 square miles from Emerald Bay to Dollar Hill, and along the Truckee River to the Nevada County line. The district is governed by a five-person board of directors and one seat is contested this election.
Moonshine Ink: What motivated you to run for this office, or to seek re-election?
Robin Lewis: I was motivated to run for office to become more aware of the community issues and get involved. I already serve on my local homeowners’ board as treasurer and want to share my skills with the TCPUD board. I am very concerned about water issues for drinking water, fire, etc.
Dan Wilkins: I believe strongly in public service and consider my position on the TCPUD Board as an opportunity to share my professional engineering background and knowledge of infrastructure to serve the district. I will continue to guide TCPUD’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and maintaining a sustainable community for future generations.
MI: How should the district inter-relate with the various private water companies within its boundaries?
Robin Lewis: The district should work with the private water companies. They should have mutual aid agreements, such as sharing of water, materials, labor, and consulting to benefit the overall community.
Dan Wilkins: TCPUD should maintain cooperative relationships with private water companies whose customers are satisfied. TCPUD should pursue cooperative projects with private companies that benefit both the company’s and the TCPUD’s customers.
MI: Name three qualities that set you apart from the other candidate.
Robin Lewis: Fresh face, humorist, fiscally responsible.
