Editors update; Jan. 27, 2017; 3 p.m.: Four women gave speeches at the Women’s March in Kings Beach — here are their transcripts Jennifer Merchant, Theresa May Duggan, Amy Kelley, and Kim Bateman.
What a turnout in our community today as ~ 800 men, children, and a whole lot of women showed up today in Kings Beach to show their solidarity for the National Women’s March.
Speeches from Theresa May Duggan, Jennifer Merchant, Amy Kelley, and Kim Bateman started off the marchers at the North Tahoe Event Center, then they headed out to North Lake Blvd.
There were signs-a-plenty today mirroring the feelings of the group. A few local favorites were “Tahoe Women Grab Back”, “Trump Skis in Jeans”, and “If Women had equal rights I’d be Skiing Right Now.”
Marchers chanted “We are the popular vote”, “Love not hate makes America great!”, and a call and response “What does democracy look like? This is what democracy looks like!”
Towards the end of the march, everyone broke into the famous Beatles song “Love is all you need.”
A huge thanks to the women who organized this event (kept it going even in the snow) and came out today — what an uplifting event.
