The Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that enhances public education within the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, recently announced the recipients of its 2010/11 Linda Brown Fellows and Star awards at a convocation event at Truckee High School. Nominations for both the Fellows and Star awards come from students, parents, and community members, as well as TTUSD staff members. No self-nominations or those from Excellence in Education board members are accepted.
The Fellows Program is designed to recognize outstanding teachers and staff members who demonstrate originality, innovation, and dedication to the teaching profession that goes above and beyond the high standards of the district. Fellows each receive $2,000 to enhance educational work within the district and $1,000 for their personal use.
Star Awards recognize classified employees who positively impact the lives of the students by providing outstanding support in their positions. The recipients each receive $1,000 for their personal use.
The foundation will host its annual recognition event to honor donors, the Linda Brown Fellows and Star awards recipients, and acknowledge a year of successful partnerships on Friday, Sept. 24 at Northstar-at-Tahoe. Attendees will be treated to a performance by the North Tahoe High School Jazz Band as well as heavy appetizers, a no-host bar, and grant recipient displays. The Truckee office of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage is generously underwriting the cost of this year’s event. Tickets are $30 per person and the event is open to the public.
