Squaw/Alpine Partner with Sugar Bowl/Royal Gorge
Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows have partnered with Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge to give passholders skiing privileges at all four resorts (plus Sierra-at-Tahoe) for the 2014-2015 season, opening up access to a total of 7,650 skiable acres and over 370 runs. The number of free day passes depends on the tier of season pass purchased; go online for details. All tickets will be redeemable any day of the 2014-2015 winter season except for Saturdays and during holiday periods. Dragonfly Restaurant to Close
After 13 years in downtown Truckee, Dragonfly will close this month. The popular Cal-Asian restaurant will serve lunch through March 17 and dinner through March 24. Owner Billy McCullough said the business did not go under, but that he got an offer he couldn’t refuse. “I’ve always got itches to do lots of other things, but some of the stuff I couldn’t do while Dragonfly was happening,” McCullough said. “I am excited to move on and take it to my next endeavor. Porters, a Tahoe/Truckee Institution, Closes
Porters Sports closed its Truckee store at the end of February, marking the end of a 54-year run in Tahoe/Truckee. Porters opened in 1951 in Tahoe City, and grew to three stores on the North Shore, including one in Incline Village. The North Shore locations closed within the past few years, leaving the Truckee location in the Crossroads Shopping Center as the last Porters shop in the region. The announcement of the closing surprised locals, but Porters offered major sales to get rid of its remaining inventory before officially shutting its doors. ~ Kara Fox/Moonshine Ink
Donner Lake Yoga Co-Op Opens
The Yoga Co-Op opened March 1 in Truckee, with a co-op business structure. The center will offer yoga, fitness, dance classes, and massage, as well as workshops, art shows, and other community activities. Lakeshore Realty Celebrates 20 Years
In a field of turnovers and mergers, Lakeshore Realty in Incline Village celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. When Chris and Patti Plastiras founded the company, they purchased the land and built the building where their main office still stands at 954 Lakeshore Blvd. Not only is the firm marking 20 years, they’re riding a wave of sales not seen in nearly a decade, further indicating a strengthening market and cementing Nevada’s growing appeal as a tax haven.
