Traveling yogis now have a network of affordable places to stay around the world, including 16 local members in Truckee and North Tahoe.
OmStays is a comprehensive online resource that connects yoga travelers by offering affordable homestays and other complementary connections. OmStays founders call it an “eco-friendly, wallet-friendly, interactive, educational, and enriching alternative to the traditional hotel.”
Annual OmStays memberships are $35 and provide exclusive access to the homestay directory, which covers all 50 states as well as international locations. Hosts and guests create an arrangement of reciprocity, with hosts providing a private room with a real bed in exchange for $15 per night. The service also includes a comprehensive calendar of events featuring classes, retreats, festivals, and conferences in the yoga world.

Retting Displays Wooden Boat Photos in Tahoe City
Alpine Home in the Boatworks Mall near the Tahoe Yacht Club will be displaying canvas collections of Tahoe wooden boat photos by photographer Rob Retting throughout the month of July.
Retting photographed the wooden boats specifically for the exhibit, and each canvas image centers on a tight detail of the artistic woodies — the sleek lines, gleaming metal, and varnished wood. The exhibit opened on July 4. Info: robretting.com
Dead Sea Warehouse Moves
Dead Sea Warehouse, which supplies products to more than 700 health food stores across the country, has moved out of Incline Village to a warehouse in Elk Grove, Calif. The company’s products will still be carried by local stores New Moon Natural Foods, the Village Market, Sierra Health Mart, and Whole Foods Reno. BareBones WorkWear Opens in Truckee
BareBones WorkWear is opening a new 4,400-square-foot store in the Gateway Shopping Center in Truckee. The store will be located in the former Payless Shoes space and is scheduled to open Sept. 1. The Sacramento-based retailer will sell apparel, scrubs, boots, and accessories.
“The store will create over 35 new local jobs and will retain clothing-apparel purchases and dollars in the local Truckee-Tahoe economy, rather than going to Reno for these types of products,” said James Macdonell, who is the leasing broker for several area shopping centers. “We search for high-quality businesses that will compliment the local economy and create local jobs, but not be directly competitive with locally owned businesses.”

New Equipment for Dr. Chase
Tahoe Forest Health System’s ear, nose, and throat specialist Dr. Robert Chase has received the most advanced piece of endoscopy equipment for performing laryngoscopy. The Olympus Endoscopy System is one of only a few such systems being used in medical facilities in the United States.
Laryngoscopy is a medical procedure that is used to view the voice box, throat, and back of the nose. The laryngoscope is a small, flexible endoscope that is painlessly inserted into either the mouth or nose, enabling the examiner to view the interior of the larynx. This highly specialized piece of endoscopy equipment makes looking inside a patient’s vapor respiratory and digestive tract easier and more efficient. Vail Pays Employee Health Premiums
After a very successful year controlling health care claims, Vail Resorts will pay the cost of one two-week health care premium for all employees who were enrolled in its consumer-driven UMR-healthcare plan.
Last year Vail Resorts announced a consumer drive UMR healthcare plan that was designed for Vail Resorts active and health-conscious employees. The plan was designed to reward healthy behaviors, and asked employees to be more engaged in health care choices. The goal was to drive down costs — both for the company and for employees — and it did, saving approximately $400,000.
