Town and SBC Award First Microenterprise Loan

The Town of Truckee, in partnership with Sierra Business Council, has awarded the first small business loan through the Community Development Block Grant Microenterprise loan program. The $50,000 loan was awarded to an undisclosed local adventure tourism company, and will be used to purchase a vehicle and new equipment. CDBG Loan Programs provide affordable and flexible financing and technical assistance workshops to eligible residents and businesses of Truckee. For income-eligible new or existing microenterprises (five or fewer employees including the owner), the program offers low-cost, flexible term financing. Loans are also available for established, larger businesses looking to expand and create jobs in Truckee. Typical loan amounts will range from $10,000 to $50,000. Skiing For Schools Discount Lift Tickets Benefit North Lake Tahoe Students

A limited number of reduced rate lift tickets for North Lake Tahoe ski areas are available for purchase through the Excellence in Education Skiing for Schools program. Proceeds benefit quality public education, as money raised goes directly into the school district via Excellence in Education Foundation’s grant programs. Ticket usage is no longer limited to one day or a specific week of skiing and snowboarding at participating resorts;; most tickets can be used throughout the season on non-holidays. Tickets need to be pre-purchased online at exined.org or in person at Tahoe Dave’s ski shops; they are not available at the resorts.
Truckee Becomes Suddenlink Gig City

Altice USA announced today that it is now offering Suddenlink internet service with download speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second in Truckee, and also that it has automatically increased certain other Suddenlink residential internet speeds for existing customers.
“This is fantastic news for Truckee,” said Town Manager Tony Lashbrook. “This new 1 Gigabit service gives Truckee a cutting edge tool to help attract and retain businesses and provides our residents with enhanced internet service options.”
In addition to launching the 1 Gigabit internet service, residential high-speed internet customers with current download speeds up to 75 and 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) have been automatically moved to services with download speeds up to 100 and 200 Mbps, respectively.
2017 Go West Summit Comes to Region

Healing Center Expands Thanks to Craig Hospital

Last December, the High Fives Foundation launched Craig Empowerment, an 800 square foot addition to the C.R. Johnson Healing Center. The Craig Empowerment Center is supported by Craig Hospital in Denver, a world-renowned rehabilitation hospital that specializes in the care of people who have sustained a spinal cord and/or brain injury. This new center now gives athletes unique access to important strength-training technologies such as the FES Bike, Freemotion EXT Dual Cable, and Parallel Bars, while also providing more space for important workouts.

After more than a decade, 101.5 FM morning show host Lindsay Romack signed off on her last broadcast Jan. 6. Her new boss, the Placer County Board of Supervisors, is slated to approve her new position as general administrative and technical assistant to the District 5 supervisor at a $67,318 salary plus benefits at the Jan. 10 meeting.
