Halloween Parade
October 30
The Halloween fun begins with the Truckee Donner Recreation and Parks District Halloween Parade. The parade for children of all ages starts at 6 p.m. sharp, at the train depot in Truckee, and proceeds through Historic Downtown to the Community Center on Church Street, where kids can trick-or-treat for candy and prizes. 530-582-7720.
Draw A School For U Contest
Through October 20
The Measure U Committee announces the ‘Draw a School for U’ Community Art Contest. Create an original drawing or painting on paper (no larger than 11 x 17 inches) showing what you believe Truckee High School will look like after Measure U is passed and construction is completed. Make sure your name, age, grade, and phone number are on the back of your artwork. Take entries to Plumas Bank through October 20. On October 22, a panel of judges will announce winners in four different categories – Pre-school/ Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle School, and High School. One winner in each age group will receive a $100 Savings Bond, donated by Plumas Bank. Winners will be contacted by phone, and will receive their savings bonds in an award ceremony at Plumas Bank in Truckee. Tahoe City Harvest Festival

Oktoberfest, Scarecrows, and Pumpkin Patch, oh my. Join the Tahoe City Downtown Association for the Fourth Annual Harvest Festival in North Lake Tahoe.
• October 11 – Cobblestone Oktoberfest. Activities include apple bobbing and pumpkin painting, food, drink, and live music with Déjà Vu. From 3 to 6 p.m. 475 North Lake Boulevard, Tahoe City.
• October 12 – Tahoe Rim Trail Harvest Hike. Guided by Tim Hauserman, author of the ‘Tahoe Rim Trail,’ this trek offers spectacular views of Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River Canyon. Nine-mile round-trip hike through the newest section of the Tahoe Rim Trail. Meet at Fairway Community Center, 9 a.m., 330 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City.
• October 18 – Pumpkin Patch Carnival. Pick a plump pumpkin for Halloween. Women’s Ski Conditioning Boot Camp

Don’t waste valuable snow time skiing yourself into shape. Tahoe Center for Health and Sports Performance and Northstar Resort are partnering to provide a ski conditioning class for women led by Julie Young, Rossignol x-country ski racer and U.S. National Cycling Team member. Boot camp utilizes body weight – the most natural and efficient way to build functional movement, agility, balance, power, and strength through calisthenics, static poses, and plyometrics. Truckee Ski Swap

Back for its twenty-sixth season, the Truckee Ski Swap offers a wide variety of new and used equipment, accessories, clothing, and miscellaneous winter gear for the entire family. Local reps will be on hand to answer your questions. Proceeds help support Truckee Youth Sports Programs such as Buddy Werner, Cross Country, and Youth Basketball.
Any business or individual may sell equipment at the Swap. A commission is charged on all merchandise sold. Biking for a Better World

Squaw Valley residents Jake Spero and Duncan Sisson will present their extraordinary bike trip at Squaw Valley Institute’s ‘Biking for a Better World: Pedaling 15,000 miles from Alaska to Argentina.’
Motivated by previous fundraising ventures, Spero, Sisson, John Witherspoon and Sam Skrocke became inspired to form their own non-profit corporation, Biking for a Better World, Inc. The ride was their first project, and served as a catalyst to raise nearly $30,000 to fully fund the building of a small school in northern Nicaragua. 7 p.m. at PlumpJack Conference Center.
