Have You Been Good this Year?

Glenshire Elementary School hosts its annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa. Feast on pancakes, sausage, doughnuts, bagels, coffee and juice. Children can whisper their wishes into Santa’s ear then have their picture taken with the jolly old elf, get their face painted, and create with free arts and crafts. The event also features live music, a book fair, games, and a raffle. All proceeds benefit Glenshire Elementary School’s PTO, providing funding for critical programs such as after-school enrichment, field trips and Artists in Residence. Rotary’s Youth Exchange
Rotary Club of Truckee welcomes exchange student Lena Frenzer from Witterich, Germany, to our mountain town. She was selected through an intense application and interview process, and participated in a year-long training and language immersion program prior to coming to Truckee. Lena is a senior at Tahoe Truckee High School where she has distinguished herself as an excellent student, practices with the tennis team, and is a member of the band. The Youth Exchange program is a family-to-family program, in which students come from other Rotary families throughout the world, spending a total of nine months with three different families. Youth Cross-Country
The Auburn Ski Club on Donner Summit is taking registrations for its weekend youth cross-country ski programs. The Super Sliders, for children 5 to 12 years old, is a parent-led program promoting participation, basic skills, and fun on skis. The Sonics Race Team, for 9- to 12-year-olds, is led by professional coaches to help aspiring young athletes learn good technique and training and racing skills. Fall into family fun every Sunday in November. Tahoe Maritime Museum has movies, tours, and fishing lessons for your family. They offer hands-on crafts including rope bracelets and model sailboat kits for each child every Sunday in November. ‘Shark Tales’ shows at 2 p.m. on November 16. Museum Educator David ‘Smitty’ Smith leads guided tours at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on November 23. They will also offer fishing lessons in the parking lot on November 23. Family memberships begin at $40, and include admission for a year, invitations to special events, and more. Kids from 4 to 10 years old with Club Shanghai Memberships receive material to make their own passport and stamps each time they visit the museum to learn about Tahoe history and boating. Give an animal through Heifer Project or a part of a home through Habitat for Humanity, and receive a gift card to announce the gift. Baskets, batik and tie-dyed textiles (clothing, tablecloths, bedcovers, and wall hangings,) and hand-carved crafts are purchased directly by Asante Network from the Miichi Women’s Group in Tanzania and NEEPU Women’s Group in Uganda. The money the women receive helps them to feed their families, send their children to school, and support AIDS orphans. Additional funds raised help build classrooms, provide scholarships, books and tools. Gift cards for other alternative giving opportunities will also be available. All are welcome to a Thanksgiving Service in spirit of fellowship and gratitude at the Christian Science Society of Truckee. The service includes the President’s Thanksgiving Proclamation, hymns, a solo, Bible Lesson/Sermon, and an opportunity for the congregation to share gratitude. During the Lesson/Sermon, passages are read from both The Bible and the Christian Science textbook ‘Science and Health’ with Key to the Scriptures written by Mary Baker Eddy. InnerRhythms Adult Program

Inner Rhythms has revamped their adult programs. Sarah Bailey, a former professional dancer/choreographer and new co-owner of Full Circle Movement exercise studio, has joined the Inner Rhythms teaching staff. ‘Dancing keeps you young,’ Bailey said. ‘As we get older we lose a lot of our artistic and creative expression. These classes are a great way to get back in touch with that.’
