Architecture Workshop for Kids
June 14
Help your child go beyond building with Legos and learn how to make architectural models with AIA (American Institute of Architecture) designer Steven Fitzgerald at Nevada Museum of Art’s (NMA) E.L. Cord Museum School. Your child will build a three-dimensional model from a two-dimensional plan using cut-and-paste materials. KIDS University
June 16 through August 1
The University of Nevada, Reno presents another fun-filled summer with seven, week-long themed sessions in the arts, languages, science, math, literature, theatre, history, current affairs, cultural exploration, and sports. KIDS University is a day camp open to children entering grades 2 through 8. Full or half day sessions available, with full day running from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and half-day from 7:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Camps are Monday through Friday and the full-day sessions include a lunch break and afternoon recreational activities. $25 nonrefundable/nontransferable deposit is required for each weeklong session at time of registration. Individual fees for each week range from $144 to $180/full-day, and $96 to $120/half-day. Limited scholarships available. Sessions will be held on the University campus, and some include field trips. YouthART Enrichment Camp

North Tahoe Arts YouthART Enrichment camp offers a hands-on art experience to elementary-age youth from the North Tahoe/Truckee region and the Bay Area, and teaches new techniques in self-expression. Local artists and instructors excel at teaching children the joy of ceramics, printmaking, painting, fiber art, earth art, book/journal making, jewelry, pastels, wire sculpture, and batik. Tahoe Rim Trail Youth Backcountry Camps
July 8 through 10, and 21 through 23
The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) in partnership with Sierra Nevada Journeys (SNJ) offers two 3-day Youth Backcountry Camps as a part of their 2008 Summer Trail and Educational Programs. The camps will be held from July 8 through10 (girls age 13 to15) and July 21 through 23 (boys and girls age 13 to18.) In addition to trail work, participants will learn about the environment of Lake Tahoe and minimum-impact recreation. Topics covered include map and compass orienteering, Leave No Trace, wildlife identification, flora and fauna identification, and astronomy. Participants will get their hands dirty during a trail building project, supervised by qualified and experienced Tahoe Rim Trail crew leaders. Through this project, participants will learn to identify and properly use tools, as well as take part in trail-route scouting and flagging. Each camp has the capacity for 15 students and will be fully supported by TRTA staff, SNJ staff, and crew leaders. Program cost $50 (scholarships available). Storm Drain Stenciling

The League to Save Lake Tahoe and the Placer County Department of Public Works are hosting a ‘Storm Drain Stenciling’ event in Kings Beach. Volunteers will use spray paint and stencils to mark storm drains with the phrase: ‘NO DUMPING, DRAINS TO LAKE.’ Storm water that enters street gutters and storm drains flows directly into nearby streams, rivers, and wetland environments, eventually reaching Lake Tahoe. Pollution from urban areas contributes significantly to the declining water quality of the lake. Stenciling storm drains is a fun and easy way to get involved in the community. Pilates Classes Outdoors
Dr. Barry Triestman is now offering Pilates reformer classes at the Truckee Regional Park. Reformer machines allow you to work better and faster to change your body by providing support and resistance. Poetic Rhythms

InnerRhythms Presents Poetic Rhythms, their year-end showcase, featuring performances by the MiniRhythms dancers and award-winning RhythMatriX Hip Hop Troupe. Artistic Director Elizabeth Archer, Sheri WoodsGreen, Anett Eichler, Ryan Curren, Padma Rothschild, and Alli Richardson have choreographed pieces for dancers ages 3 to adult in ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, and modern dance disciplines. Children’s art on display and poetry readings. A special finale will address world peace. InnerRhythms Dance Theatre Company will also present an excerpt from their upcoming GALA Concert, ‘Let it Be.’

Summer Ki Gong by the River

Designed to enhance health and wellbeing for mind, body, and spirit, Ki Gong is recognized for its positive effects on the immune system, general health, and vitality. The practice is made up of series of gentle movements with focused breathing and meditation. ‘Ki’ (‘Chee’) is the word for the life force or energy in all living things. ‘Gong’ means practice. Tahoe: Lost and Found
The Underground Artists and Tahoe Arts and Mountain Culture present ‘Tahoe: Lost & Found,’ a series of local events intended to build on the strong sense of community that developed during the Angora fire last year. This grass-roots community event is designed to promote South Shore’s local culture, art, events, businesses, and attractions to visitors through the summer, and will culminate with an Art Show and Auction on September 19 at Valhalla’s historic Grand Hall. For Goodness Sake now offers a Buddhist meditation class on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. Each class will feature a brief commentary on the object of meditation, followed by a guided meditation based on the Kadampa Buddhist tradition of Lamrim, the 21 meditations prescribed by the famous Buddhist teacher, Atisha, 1,000 years ago in Tibet. African Dance and Drumming Workshope
InnerRhythms is hosting an African Dance and Drumming Workshop on Saturday, June 28, from 2 to 5 p.m. Master African Dance Artist, Alain Zinzo of Senegal, Africa, will teach a dynamic, high energy African Dance Class accompanied by several Master percussion and rhythm musicians. The Master African Dance Class will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. followed by a Master Drumming Class from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuition for the Master Class is $25 per class or $45 for both classes and pre-regristration is required.
