North Lake Tahoe Snow Festival

Celebrate Tahoe’s signature season with a week of festivities, including a polar bear swim, parties, parades, ski and boarding challenges, wacky competitions, concerts and special outings and activities. A torchlight parade and fireworks extravaganza, with a laser display, kicks off the annual North Lake Tahoe Snow Festival at Squaw Valley after dark on February 29. Winter Blue Adventure Race
March 9
The Big Blue Adventure Series begins the season with a race set in Northstar’s backcountry. It challenges adventure racers and winter athletes to use navigational skills to find specific checkpoints while making their way via snowshoes or free-heel skis. The race is open to teams of two and has estimated finishing times of three to five hours.

Free Avalanche Transceiver Workshops
First and 15 of the Month
Do you have an avalanche transceiver? Do you know how it works and how to use it? On the first and 15 of each month, throughout the season, the Squaw Valley Ski Patrol hosts classes to help you understand the benefits and correct use of a transceiver, an important tool for backcountry skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling. Workshop topics include basic avalanche awareness, rescue techniques, search methods and useful tools and procedures for backcountry rescue. Classes are held at Ski Patrol/First Aid in the third grey building near the snow removal equipment. Bring your own transceiver if you have one and dress warmly. Part of the class will be outside.
