The Life, Experiments and Philosophy of Gandhi

After making a comeback in India last year with a popular Bollywood movie, Mahatma Gandhi is now being rediscovered in America. Many people revere him as one of the greatest moral, political, and peace leaders of the twentieth century. They are especially interested in Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence, his commitment to world peace, and his work uplifting the downtrodden. This class, taught by prominent Hindu chaplain Rajan Zed, who read the historical first Hindu opening prayer in United States Senate in July, is from 6 to 9 p.m. at Meadowood Center of Truckee Meadows Commuinity College in Reno. $39 with a discount for seniors. Skiers Needed for Adaptive Snowsports Program
Disabled Sports USA Far West, located at Alpine Meadows Resort, is looking for volunteers to help teach people with disabilities learn how to downhill ski and snowboard. Volunteer for Truckee Search and Rescue and learn tracking, First Aid, Avalanche rescue and more. There are specialized snowmobile /ATV, Nordic skiing, hiking and dog teams. Nevada County Sheriff Search and Rescue is a non-profit volunteer organization with teams in Truckee and Nevada City. Truckee meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the PUD building at 11570 Donner Pass Road.
