African Dance Classes

Alain Zinzou, master dancer from Senegal, West Africa, presents a weekend of intensive dance workshops, accompanied by several master percussion and rhythm musicians. Bring your entire family and enjoy dynamic, high-energy drumming, rhythm and movement. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Classes cost $30 each, or $100 for all four. Steak Dinner with all the Fixens

Experimental Aircraft Assoc (EAA) Chapter 1073 is hosting an evening to meet your CareFlight helicopter crew with a $10 Steak Dinner. Their helicopter will be open and they will answer all your questions regarding emergencies and rescues. Other airplanes will also be on display and pilot members will be happy to give you a tour. The Young Eagles (free flights for our local kids) program will also be explained. Demonstrate, Educate, Activate: SolFest XII
August 18 and 19
The Solar Living Institute presents a celebration of renewable energy and sustainable living. Each summer since 1996 SolFest has transformed the rural hamlet of Hopland, California, into the global epicenter of green living. The two-day event showcases world-renowned speakers, musicians, artists, and more than 50 one-hour workshops. Leading developers and distributors of green products and services are featured in hundreds of booths and displays set among a beautifully landscaped setting. Appearing this year on the Main Stage will be Amy Goodman, Bruce Cockburn, Dar Williams, Alice Walker and Wayward Sons among many others. Price for a two-day pass is $45. Saturday-only pass is $30 and includes the evening’s Moondance. A Sunday-only pass is $25. Tina Malia’s Crystal Voice

Kings Beach State Recreation Area becomes a theatre under the stars hosting free movies, presented by Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort, on Tuesday nights. Kindercamp: Wild And Woolly Beasts

KidZone Enjoys Recent Successes
Not only did the KidZone Museum receive second place in the non-profit category at the Truckee Fourth of July Parade with their outer-space float, but they raised a whopping $36,000 plus at their Texas hold’Em Tournament in May. The Great Reno Balloon Race is the perfect opportunity to greet the day with a soaring spirit as the spectacular sight of hot air balloons in flight uplifts you. On Friday, on-field competitions start at 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. In conjunction with the Washoe County School District, hundreds of students will launch their Tissue Paper Balloons into the air on Friday at 9:30 am. Beginning at 5 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, The Glow starts, when pre-launch, inflated balloons glow in the dark acting as a beacon to those sleepy spectators making their way to the launch field.
