Wallace, Hetherington and Van Berkem have my vote! I live at the top of Beacon Hill in Prosser Heights and was outside talking to a friend on the phone. He asked me where I was as he could hear so much air traffic in the background. I am happy to say that was eight years ago before the community elected three outstanding community members to serve on the board.
Their efforts to educate the pilots and the public about the different take off patterns, noise abatement options along with incentive programs have significantly decreased the amount of airport and jet noise. Did you know that the airport has its own flight simulator?
One of the reasons for purchasing the simulator was to allow pilots to do some of their required training. A pilot can earn two hours of training in the simulator, which decreases the amount of time a pilot is taking off and landing at the airport.
I know our local airport is an incredible community asset and we are lucky to have it; however it is a community airport supported by community tax dollars and it is in the community’s best interest to have members of the board that are not pilots.
These non-pilot board members are connected to the community and bring diverse interests and diverse talents which in turn bring a wonderful balance to the board. Their ability to “think outside the box” is what has created some of the solutions to some of the problems facing the airport. I hope you will support me in voting for Wallace, Hetherington and Van Berkem for Airport Board
