Incline Village artist Matt Dodge says he “creates modern images that capture contemporary man’s celebration of the eternal earth.”
“I create rather instinctively, mixing visual imagery taken from my life in the Sierra with the swirling abstractions that reside deep within my soul,” he said. “Ultimately, the finished piece should translate visually the potency of life that I lust.”
In creating his work, Dodge employs an assortment of processes. Beginning with outdoor photography and combining several layers of varying art and graphic techniques, the results are printed on either archival photographic paper or canvas, then hand-colored and hand-etched. Because each piece is meticulously finished by hand, there exists a delicate physical quality to the work. The end products, which he terms “sculpted photographs,” are one-of-a-kind fine art treasures.
Dodge was born in Santa Monica and received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Colorado, Boulder. A snowboard pioneer and former world champion, he remains an active outdoor athlete, drawing upon his daily adventures to fuel his imagery.
