Jason Tackitt began photographing back in 1999 while taking a black and white photography class at Paradise High School. This is where his love affair with image capturing began. After graduating in 2001 he quickly moved to Truckee in his Grandpa’s R.V. and unfortunately began drifting away from photography. Snowboarding took over his life and not having easy access to a darkroom quickly stopped the photography escapades dead in their tracks. He put his 35mm away and didn’t pick it back up until about two years ago when he enrolled in a photography course at Sierra College. His relationship with the camera was quickly rekindled and he hasn’t stopped shooting since.
Jason is now enrolled at Lake Tahoe Community College where he’s striving to attain all the photography certificates that are offered there. He mainly shoots black and white film but embraces the digital side of it all. ‘There is no denying that that is where the majority of photography is headed,’ he says. ‘Unfortunately with digital, the ‘genie is out of the bottle,’ meaning that before the digital craze, traditional photography was a little more mysterious and fascinating to most.’
