Moody’s and Baxter’s Bistros offer Summer Classes
If you’ve always wanted to know how to create that perfect sauce, make the most from your farmers market purchases or have the best BBQ on the block, join the chefs from Moody’s and Baxter’s for a myriad of summer cooking classes. Classes at Moody’s run $50 per person, and include ingredients, the lesson, tax, tip and coffee/tea or a mimosa. Four Peaks Restaurant Opens for the Summer
Open through Labor Day, Four Peaks Restaurant at Sugar Bowl Resort is serving French-inspired California cuisine in a fine-dining setting. Dinner is served from 5 to 9 p.m. and reservations are recommended. The Belt Room Bar will also be serving a weekend bar menu from 12 to 9 p.m.

Raw Food Classes Offered at New Moon Natural Foods
A series of raw food classes will be offered at New Moon Natural Foods monthly from July through September. Each class will feature food prep and demonstrations of different types of raw cuisine, including green drinks and smoothies, raw snacks and raw desserts. Learn special tips and techniques for how to incorporate raw foods into the diet in order to enjoy the health benefits of this burgeoning trend. Each class will be held at the newly opened juice bar, and will be taught by Sue Steph, owner of Spiral Healing Colon Hydrotherapy. ‘The health benefits of incorporating raw food into one’s diet are incredible,’ says Steph. Saturday classes will be held on July 11, August 15 and September 12, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Classes cost $25 each and include instruction, recipes, tasting and a 5 percent shopping discount at New Moon the day of the class. New Restaurant Opens in Historic Truckee Diner

Housed in an original 1940s diner, JAX is Truckee’s latest answer to ‘decadent comfort food.’ Winners of Truckee’s inaugural Chili Cookoff, owner Bud Haley, chef Melinda Dorn and sous chef Phil Brown are offering a reasonably priced menu and a place for everyone, whether they be a diehard local or a second homeowner. Menu options include classic buttermilk pancakes alongside with snow crab eggs Benedict, St. Louis-style ribs and peppercorn-crusted ahi niçoise salad. JAX, slated to open July 14, is located at 10144 West River St. (former location of Andy’s Truckee Diner) in Truckee and is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Jake’s on the Lake Offers Live Lobster, Full Moon Romance
Jake’s on the Lake in Tahoe City is offering 1.5-pound lobsters on Friday and Saturday nights. The lobster dinner is served with salad and red potatoes for $29 and is available in the dining room or café bar. Additionally, the restaurant has a four-course dinner available for $79 per couple including tax and tip, August 4 to 6.
