Remember Railyard History
That was a wonderful article on the Railyard project, but it didn’t mention the Truckee History – Railroad Museum, which the Truckee library and the KidZone plan for the civic space in the upper part of the Railyard balloon track. All three groups are working together to define how they might use this space. The Truckee History – Railroad Museum is a new nonprofit organized by the Truckee-Donner Historical Society and the Truckee Donner Railroad Society. The museum group is determining the Truckee stories to be told, the space needed, and the sources of financing.

Set a Better Example with Helmet
I just read your latest issue — great cover shot, but instantly I was drawn to the fact that she doesn’t have a helmet on?! I have a great “girl tribe” here, and we all wear helmets! Let’s set better examples, especially for a COVER shot of a publication that influences a lot of people.

In response to Housing Project Targets “Missing Middle”
Encourage People to Live Here
In addition to the larger projects that have different housing options, I think we need to give people incentive to live here by decreasing the housing expenses if you live and work here. Possibly by a decrease in the costs to build a house for those that live in the house for 10 years or decrease the upward pressure on prices by using rent control. Give an incentive for long-term rentals, possibly with a tax break, and a penalty for short-term rentals. I am sure that there are additional/other ways to make people more able to live and work here.

That’s Affordable?
You have got to be kidding!!! Affordable housing at $1,000 per single, $1,300 for a one-bedroom and $2,100 for a 3-bedroom apartment. Where do you come up with the Truckee AMI of $72,156 when most of the jobs in the area are service jobs … ?? Once again things are being based on San Francisco cost of living indices while a developer is using fake predictions to pull off yet another bogus “affordable housing project.” This is all about building another Marriott project … At least be truthful about the bottom line. Lashbrook is putting $1 million of taxpayer dollars into a roundabout for Marriott, not into “affordable housing!”

Market-Rate isn’t Affordable
Is it really appropriate to use funds earmarked for affordable housing to support a market-rate housing project? Defeats the purpose of trying to encourage affordable housing and will leave plenty of people still desperate for affordable housing.
