Second Annual Moonshine Ink 500
How Be Local? Can you write a better sentence than that? Now is your chance to prove it. What does it mean? Take the topic and run with it to be entered in the Second Annual Moonshine Ink 500 writing contest. Tell us what that question arouses in you. Are you resentful at being treated like a ‘Flatlander’ when you visit Commercial Row or having to pay for parking, which you didn’t used to have to do? Do you know when to avoid Safeway? Is your local status based on longevity or community involvement? What does a local look like? Elucidate, entertain, pontificate, kvetch, change our perceptions. Put it into a 500-word (or less) essay and send it in for possible publication in our February 12 edition of Moonshine Ink.
Beth Ingalls won last year’s contest, and she is now one of our regular contributing writers. In response to the question ‘Why Is It So Flippin’ Hard to Live in Tahoe-Truckee?’ she began, ‘ Is it supposed to be easy? Are we so pampered and bent on convenience and ease that a struggle, be it small or large, is too much for us these days?’
Entries can be in Spanish or English. Deadline is January 20. The Grand Prize is four Sugar Bowl lift tickets.
