Trails and Vistas Equine Workshop
Acclaimed choreographer Alain Gauthier, celebrated for his work with Cavalia and Le Cirque du Soleil, recently conducted the first of three equine-guided education workshop for young dancers of Truckee’s InnerRhythms Dance Theatre. Working with a Belgium Draft horse, the students learned acrobatics, theater arts and aerial stunts. The dancers will bring their new equestrian art to the ‘Terra Caeli’ Trails and Vistas art hike on September 12 and 13 at the Tahoe Donner Equestrian Center. Trails and Vistas is also seeking sponsorships for the workshops and for specific sites at ‘Terra Caeli’ for individuals or businesses that wish to help bring this event to the public. To learn more about the workshops, sponsorship opportunities, view the past event photo gallery, or volunteer for the art hike, contact Artistic and Executive Director Nancy Tieken Lopez at nancy@trailsandvistas.org or visit trailsandvistas.org.

Sierra College Student Art Wows Community
‘Will anyone come?’ the Sierra College staff wondered when they began to plan the First Annual Student Art Show at the new campus in Truckee. Fortunately, over 400 community members arrived to ‘oooh’ and ‘aaah’ over the impressive works of photography, digital art, drawing, and painting on April 24. The campus’ new Dean, Dr. Kim Bateman, introduced an interactive element to the show, which focused people on the merits of the art itself – rather than the drinks and appetizers – and inspired discussion and debate. At the awards ceremony, local artists Ursula Haimowitz, Carole Sesko, and Anke Hass, who judged the pieces by present and former students at the College, emphasized the difficulty of awarding only seven prizes: there were many outstanding artworks which deserved recognition. The winners received awards donated by Bradbury’s Office Supplies, Z Frame Shop, and Backstreet Framers. Darn, you missed it? Watch for information about the second Annual Student Art Show in the Spring of 2010 at Truckee’s new college campus on the old Hippie Hill.
