There is a new friend at my house this month. I went for a walk with one of my very pregnant people, who goes by the name Mom, a few days ago out by Prosser Reservoir. We were enjoying a nice stroll by the creek when a coyote started howling at us. We changed direction to give the ‘yote some space and just then Mom had her first contraction. We started heading home with the coyote now howling at us in the background. Mom only made a few blocks into the neighborhood before she had to stop. Her sister ran ahead and got the car while my other four-legged friends followed. I stayed behind with the soon-to-be mom and grandma. A few minutes later the car arrived and they headed for the hospital. About an hour later my new friend Maeve was born. It’s been very busy at my house ever since.
With all the excitement in my life I still managed to find time to visit my pals at the shelter. Last month’s featured friend Petey has found a home and so has my old friend Clint. Nothing makes me happier than seeing good friends find good homes. We have a pretty full kennel right now so if you are in the market for a new friend this is a great time to adopt.
We looked around and decided to take out a black lab named Arthur. Arthur behaves just like an expensive purebred lab but at a fraction of the cost. He’s only about a year old and comes with unlimited energy. We took Art for a hike down to Truckee River. We met a few dogs and people and Arthur was friendly with everyone. When we got to the river Art really shined. He loves to swim and had no hesitation when jumping off rocks into the water. I watched him jump a few times. This guy can fly!
Arthur would make a great skiing, hiking or swimming partner for someone. I bet he would love to go to the docks at Donner Lake. He is going to need lots of exercise. Art spent about two hours down at the river and had no trouble jumping right back into my car. His car manners weren’t too bad after I told him he belonged in the back seat. I took him over to my house and we hung out on the deck and chased a ball.
Arthur is toilet trained. He went into our bathroom and drank right out of the toilet. He also has the strange habit of soaking his front paws in the water bowl. This ain’t a pedicure pal. That’s my drinking water.
Arthur knows how to sit and listens pretty well when he is called. He is a new addition to the shelter so he is just learning. With patience, exercise and chew toys I’m sure Arthur will make a world-class dog.
