Terebithia
Anonymous, Truckee

Across the street where
you and I meet
the ring of stones stand empty, and the mountain
Rose looms.
The footbridge takes us to inviting places where we rest and play.

Terabithia will always be a welcome haven; stones roll and jewels tumble in the riverbed forever. The message in the bottle will always read ‘come back to me’

Dragonfly hovers at the end of the day. The bird on my shoulder transports me to a place and time that only I can recall. You lay in my bosom. The welcoming fire draws our souls together one last time where the
 truth resides.

The travelers take to the road, and the angels stay in Terabithia which is hidden from others, but we know it exists forever.

There is a sign somewhere in Truckee that reads: ‘Terabithia:  Travelers Welcome, Leave No Trash’

Cold Communion
By Judy Tretheway, Sacramento

Cold stream
blanketed mounds of white,
silent,
the swirling waters rest,
quiet.
Clear crystals frozen in time,
muffling the clatter
of a journey that once rushed in vigor
and now waits
inside the hush of snow.

Water, as still as the rocks,
peacefully
catching a long deep breath
before the passionate rush of spring,
the summer’s slow dance,
and the fall’s lazy dribble.

Finally
the water is still enough,
quiet enough,
patient enough
to rest.
Rocks and water, logs and land
sharing moments together,
no hurry,
no swirling restlessness,
nothing
more important downstream.

Winter, a pause,
a quiet time of deep communion,
rock and ice
nestled under a blanket of snow.

~ Tretheway has just finished a book of poems,
