It’s no surprise that the crowds keep growing at the Truckee Thursdays street festivals. The word is out that Truckee Thursdays is THE place to socialize with friends and family, delight in the offerings of local businesses, and all the while ease into an early weekend.
Now in its second summer, the five-event series keeps coming up with creative themes for each festival installment including the Human Society sponsored ‘Dogtown’ that went off July 16. That Thursday local dog lovers paraded down Donner Pass Rd with dogs dressed in costumes.
‘Only in Truckee, folks!’ exclaimed the Truckee police officer leading the dog parade to the stopped yet amused traffic in the opposite lane.
You didn’t need a canine to get in on the fun that afternoon, however, entertainment abounded with Quartet Minus One bumpin’ funky jams in the beer garden and the InnerRhythms dance troupe performing just down the street.
Those looking to leave with a souvenir were in luck as dozens of artisans had their wares on display. The hungry were satisfied too as the Foothill Farmer’s Market held vendors selling everything from arugula to strawberries, with tri-tip sandwiches and corn on-the-cob to top it off.
If you haven’t made it down to revel in the Thursday fun yet there are only two more opportunities this summer. Truckee Thursdays will come alive again from 4 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 13 and Aug. 20.
Family Day bash on Aug. 13 will be hosted by the KidZone and feature a kid’s concert by Todd Wees and a beer garden performance by Drop Theory.
Wrapping up the festival series on August 20 get ready for an ‘End of the Summer Fiesta’ hosted by the Truckee Downtown Merchants Association and featuring live music by Joe Mama. And the road WILL BE CLOSED! (A frequent request by vendors and attendees.)
So when Thursday comes around again, think Truckee Thursdays. You don’t want to miss either opportunity to start an early weekend!
