Switchback Wins Five Top Awards
Switchback Public Relations +Marketing, Inc, based in Truckee, recently cleaned house at an awards dinner, winning five top awards from the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). PRSA is the largest professional organization for public relations professionals in the United States.
‘I am thrilled the Switchback team was recognized for all of our hard work for several clients,’ said Brinn Wellise, president/owner of Switchback. ‘We have great clients to work with, which helps make our efforts successful.’
Switchback accepted three Awards of Excellence. In the category of Ongoing Programs, budget over $25,000, an award was received for Chase International. In the category of Special Events, budget $10,000 to $25,000, awards were received for Truckee Wine, Walk and Shop, as well as Bobo Fest 2007.
In addition, Switchback also received a Silver Spike Award and the Judges Choice Overall for Reno-Tahoe, America’s Adventure Place in the category of Ongoing Programs, budget over $25,000. The Silver Spike Award is the highest honor given.

New Pediatric Dentistry Office at The Rock
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tooth decay is the most chronic disease among children age 5 to 17. Luckily for Truckee-Tahoe residents, pediatric dentist Matthew Gustafsson, D.D.S., aims to stem the tide of childhood dental decay at his new practice, Truckee Pediatric Dentistry, located at The Rock in Truckee.
‘We’ve all heard the horror stories from adults who had bad dentistry experiences in their youth,’ said Dr. Gustafsson. ‘Our goal is to start the kids early so they become accustomed to the dentist office environment. We strive to have a kid-friendly atmosphere here so when they are older they won’t have a negative feeling associated with dentistry and they will continue to visit the dentist and maintain good dental health.’
Dr. Gustafsson is the only accredited pediatric dentist in the Truckee-Tahoe region. He is a dental specialist who has completed an American Dental Association accredited advanced post-doctoral course of at least two academic years in the pediatric dentistry specialty. New Flying A Gas Station Recalls the ‘50s
After three years of planning, design, and construction, the newly revitalized Flying A building on Commercial Row adds a retro feel to downtown Truckee. A fully working gas station since the 1930s, the property has undergone an environmental clean-up and the addition of 1,800 square feet, while maintaining the character and design – complete with neon signs and old-style gas pumps – of a 1950s Flying A gas station as prescribed by Truckee’s Historic Preservation Action Committee (HPAC).
Project Developer and lead investment partner Tom Watson of Truckee River Associates said, ‘I very happy with the Flying A. Architect Nick Kromydas of Cox and Kromydas, construction manager Jeremy Orenstein of GLA Morris and everyone who worked on the property did an outstanding job in bringing this project together.’
On October 23, Sports Tahoe opened its third area location in Truckee at the new Flying A. ‘Sports Tahoe has a great reputation as one of the area’s leading retailers and is a strong addition to the downtown Truckee business landscape,’ Watson said. ‘They shared our vision of the revitalization of the Flying A, and we are very proud they decided to make the Flying A their home in Truckee.’
