Photograph by Niobe Burden taken on a cold October evening when the water was just becoming warmer than the air, taken from a point of rocks at the Kings Beach Recreational Launch area on north Lake Tahoe at the magical time of alpenglow. It is a 35mm digital photograph taken at a slow shutter speed utilizing a tripod. There is no post digital manipulation to color or otherwise.
From travels encompassing more than 20 countries and four continents, Niobe has been exposed to aesthetically pleasing places her whole life. She says that she finds as she grows older that she is continually looking for more interesting points of view in nature. Those perspectives not so visible at a mere glance. Drawn to the dramatic times of predawn and after dusk, Niobe’s visual interpretations are meant to be simple but emotional images that convey a feeling of calmness and serenity.
She is primarily a self-taught photographer, having supplemented her practice with commercial assisting, and workshops. She also provides instruction to private students in Lake Tahoe and is a returning instructor of a photography workshop for the Women’s Wilderness Institute in Boulder, Colorado. She has won numerous international awards and is currently has a show during the month of June at Joe’s Coffee on Jibboom Street in Truckee comprised of many images from her world travels.
