My Shot
I am Argentinean, but for four years I have chosen to celebrate the holidays in Tahoe. For two years I have been living here permanently, and although many believe it is ‘Flippin’ Hard to Live in Tahoe,’ I am one of those who believe that is worth the effort every day to enjoy this beautiful place.
December is the month that we go back in time, and we balance out the year that is almost done. We get together with friends to reminisce about the special moments and funny times throughout the year. We get together with the family to celebrate Christmas, and New Year’s Eve, and although we might have had ‘discussions’ with family members during the year (or even before), on Dec. 25 and again, on New Year’s Eve, we pick up the glass and cheer for our cherished ones, no matter what.
I have a lovely family in Argentina, so during the holidays, I miss them, but I try to appreciate the distance in a good way, and meanwhile, take great pleasure in long-distance phone calls. I always give thanks for the technology that allows us to talk ‘live’ while being on different continents.
This year, I am grateful my brother is coming to visit me from Argentina to celebrate the holidays with my boyfriend and I. Almost impatiently, I look forward to hugging him and to enjoying these special holidays with him, in this special place.
