Mountain Mix
A mixology of high altitude gadfly gossip for oxygen starved brain cells.
The Tahoe Pink Foundation held its fifth annual ‘Pink Party’ fundraiser at the Bar of America. Don’t you love seeing men in bright, fluffy, girly, Barbie pink! Between this and ‘Walk A Mile In Her Shoes,’ where men strutted through Truckee in stilettos to raise awareness for domestic violence for Tahoe Women’s Services, I have to wonder if some plan is afoot to turn some of our mountain men into metrosexuals. I know! The nail salons are behind this. They want more customers for MANicures.
A buzz is a buzzin’ that we are in for a heavy, wet winter, after a rather cool, rainy summer and early fall storms. Clear, full-moon skies, however, greeted trick-or-treaters on All Hallows Eve, everyone’s favorite holiday for the opportunity to dress in costume and act like a maniac. The Demented Party Crew’s bash at the Plaza Bar at Squaw was quite the hoedown, complete with a dancing pole few were able to maneuver – thanks for the laughs. I couldn’t decide if my favorite costume was the couple dressed as Scooby Doo and Thelma, or a Kate Gosselin lookalike, complete with hairdo from hell and eight plastic babies dangling from her torso.
If there’s any reason to hate the media, it is certainly now with their endless shoving of Kate and her stoopid soon-to-be-ex down our throats. Ok. I decided. I hate Kate. Scooby Doo wins.
As businesses and people wrap up their end-of-year finances and ponder their holiday giving lists, I encourage them to remember – in any small way – the wonderful pet and animal rescue organizations in our area: Pet Network, Wiley Animal Rescue, The Bear League, The Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe, High Sierra Animal Rescue and Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care. From the east to west to north shores to further north, we are communities who truly give and who take care of each other and our fellow creatures. Your giving is the reason so many give thanks at Thanksgiving.
And hey! I’m only going to say this once: SHOP LOCAL. If you don’t, I will hunt you down and force you to listen to my version of Patti LaBelle’s ‘Lady Marmalade’ over and over after I’ve downed three espressos.
