The time is just flying by this summer. Last month was pretty exciting. Some of my human cousins came to visit and one of them had never met me before. He’s a good young lad and he hasn’t been around dogs very much. It started with petting. Petting I like. The petting got more aggressive until it became hair pulling. I’ve got a pretty high tolerance for this sort of stuff so I kept my cool. The child then used the hair pulling to pull me closer. Then for his final act – he bit me. If there was any doubt if he had indeed bit me it was erased by the mouthful of hair he spit out after our encounter. I still like kids but please keep them on a leash.
My neighbors stained their house this month. There is nothing better after a hard morning of work staining a house than having a nice lunch. That’s why I am so appreciative of my friends next door. They got done with their work and put out a few salami and cheese sandwiches for lunch. They were delicious and so was whatever they were wrapped in. What was that, plastic wrap? It sure went down smooth. The house looks great! I guess I owe you lunch.
I did manage with my busy social schedule to drive over to the shelter and meet some new friends. Last month’s featured friend Sparky has moved on to a happy home. I met Petey, a border collie/pit bull mix, who seemed very friendly. My main mission however was to link up with Clint, a Sharpei mix. He seemed happy to see me and we piled into the car to head to one of my favorite spots.
Clint was well behaved in the car. When I got him out of the car he almost pulled my person down the trail on his leash. Clint is a big strong guy. He weighs about 75 pounds and he’s not into subtlety. We went down to the creek where he could stretch his legs. Clint had so much built-up energy he just ran in circles for about 10 minutes. We played chase for a while and then Clint waded into the creek for a drink. Clint likes the water and is able to stick his entire face in. He was so worked up that as he drank he made sounds like an elephant or rhinoceros. Clint would be comfortable sitting on the couch with the guys watching football, drinking beer and burping out loud. He’s a man of a dog.
After Clint ran in circles, wrestled with me and swam in the creek he settled down. Clint just needed some exercise. He was great on his leash and sat when he was asked to. Clint would make a great hiking, skiing and swimming companion. He is eager to please, friendly with other dogs and loves to chase tennis balls. Clint came to the Humane Society with a painful eye problem fairly common to his breed. A few months ago he had surgery and now his eyes are good as new. I know what he would really like to see, a new home.
If you are interested in Clint or any of the other fine animals at the Humane Society you can always see pictures at hstt.org. If you would like to foster an animal or adopt drop an email to nanettecronk@sbcglobal.net or give a call to 530-587-5948. Have a great month and remember, ‘Don’t breed or buy while shelter animals die.’
