He’s 23 and already he’s being hailed as a dubstep genius. Meet Skrillex, or Sonny Moore, the one-man production talent that is climbing the ranks of the electronic music world.

Moore’s first taste of performing on stage was through the post-hardcore band From First to Last, where he was lead singer. After overcoming vocal problems, Moore announced in 2007 that he was leaving the band to embark on a solo production career, which has evolved into Skrillex.

Moore told Spin magazine: ‘Skrillex is crazy, though, because it’s my vision. The more success that comes, the more amped I am to work on music every second I’m home.’

Moore released his debut EP, ‘My Name is Skrillex,’ as a free download in 2008. His music spread through the Internet like wildfire, earning him recognition and a spot on Deadmau5’s record label, Mousetrap, through which Skrillex released his second album ‘Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites’ last year.

In a press release, Moore said his sound is a ‘mix of dubstep, electro, and glitch all thrown together,’ although he insists that ‘genres have never been important to me.’ Whatever his style, Skrillex should be expected to put on a solid show, leaving the dance floor rocking and sweaty.

We can thank Fresh Bakin’ for bringing Skrillex to the Biggest Little City with Porter Robinson and Zedd — a dubstep dream team. This will be the first time Fresh Bakin’ has produced a show at the Knitting Factory.

‘Fresh Bakin’ is really looking forward to sharing this act and many more in the future with the Knitt,’ said Steve Emmerich, owner of Fresh Bakin’. ‘It’s a union that holds great promise for the artists we’ve been developing for the last few years.’ ~ Julie Brown/Moonshine Ink
