For your dose of monthly funk, head to the Crystal Bay Club to see Orgone, a Los Angeles–based music unit ‘with a rooted sense of funk, soul, Afrobeat, deep rhythms, and an intimate understanding of DJ culture, as well as each others’ individual talents.’
Orgone consists of a tight group of musicians who have played together for more than 10 years: Sergio Rios (guitar), Dan Hastie (keys), Stewart Killen (percussion), Sam Halterman (drums), Darren Cardoza (trombone), Devin Williams (trumpet), and Ethan Phillips (bass). Branching off that core group is an extended family of more than 10 talented musicians. The result is raw, powerful funk.
Orgone will be performing at the Crystal Bay Club with the Whitney Myer Band, another family band comprised of Whitney Myer, father Scott Myer, Uncle Fred Myer, and Gia Torcaso. Whitney Myer grew up with her father and uncle jamming with the neighborhood kids and then touring throughout the nation from the ’70s into the ’90s. That was the genesis for one of Reno’s most up and coming artists. Today, the Whitney Myer Band brews funk, soul, pop, and R&B to fuse a distinct, original style.
