Although the New Year is underway, there are still a few lingering chores from 2009. Taking down the Christmas tree and storing holiday decorations are on everyone’s to-do list for 2010, and here are a few tips for free cleanup options.
Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal is offering customers free curbside pickup for Christmas trees for one week only, from Jan. 11 to 15. To participate, trees must be cut into 3-foot segments and completely cleaned of holiday decorations, including tinsel. Place cut trees next to regular trash and blue bag recycling. Trees may also be delivered to the Eastern Regional Landfill, located on Cabin Creek Road off Highway 89 South. The landfill is open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and fees may apply. Incline Village & Crystal Bay Christmas Tree Chipping Program is open for the post-holiday season. Residents are encouraged to drop off clean Christmas trees for free recycling through Feb. 4. All decorations, lights, and tinsel must be removed from the trees to be accepted for chipping. Wreaths, stumps, or other green waste cannot be accepted. The drop off location is as Preston Field (Nevada Highway 28 at the junction of Nevada Highway 431) in Incline Village, Nev. The chipping program is in its ninth year, and chipped trees will be used as mulch to improve water conservation and reduce soil erosion on landscaped areas at IVGID Park and Recreation facilities.
