Nothing says summer like red, ripe strawberries or corn on the cob. Do peaches say warm weather to you? How about the lovely smell of fresh basil? One of my favorite summer traditions is to ride my bike down to the Tahoe City Farmers Market and buy my produce for the week directly from the grower. Ladies and gentlemen, the farmers markets in Truckee/Tahoe are here!
The Tahoe City Downtown Association worked hard to bring the market back for another year to its lakefront home at Commons Beach. Browsing veggies in front of a shimmering blue backdrop is sure worth the negotiations. Association leaders mediated between business owners and the Foothill Farmers Market Association to address traffic and parking issues. Market-friendly parking can be found along Highway 28 and in lots at Commons Beach, 64 Acres, Grove Street, as well as behind the Cobblestone Center and Blue Agave. In addition, the market’s time was adjusted. It now runs from 8 a.m. until noon, so market goers should plan accordingly and shop a little earlier.
For those who work day jobs and can’t make it to the markets in the morning, be sure to catch the farmers at Truckee Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Truckee. And while you’re at it, grab a beer and dance to some live music.
