Donna’s Stitchery, a Truckee institution from 1969 to 2010, recently changed hands and names. Donna Wolf, who ran the shop for 32 years in three different locations throughout town, is moving her business to Groveland, Calif., where she will continue to do alterations and sell notions and quilting supplies.

Wolf reminisced about old times with Moonshine Ink writer Eve Quesnel, who provided this gem: ‘Her store used to be above Cabona’s and so that the customers didn’t have to walk all the way upstairs to retrieve their hemmed pants, Donna would call them on the phone and then drop the pants out the window to the waiting women below. Pretty funny!’ Wolf also remembered something else about her location downtown back in the day: ‘Every other door was a bar and Pianeta’s was a grungy Laundromat.’

Times have definitely changed. Donna’s Stitchery, now Mountain Honey Stitchery, has been located at the Airport Business Park in Truckee for the last six years where there’s not a bar or Laundromat in sight! Anne Henry, the new owner, will offer many of the same services as Wolf did — alterations, fabric sales, and tuxedo rentals. She’ll also be offering sewing classes by appointment. Henry has been in the area for eight years, but notes that she has been ‘skiing up here my whole life.’ She studied textiles at UC Davis and ‘loves to create and design clothes.’ In terms of changes to the shop, Henry says she’s ‘been very busy … customers will notice right away that the store has a much more organized feel.’
