A larger venue and impassioned people have caused the Truckee Home & Building Show to double in size. For its 16th annual installment this Memorial Day weekend, the event will house approximately 200 exhibitors, displaying timeless construction systems like log homes, as well as introducing the latest in innovative building technologies, with a specific focus on elements of green building.
With the addition of a new gymnasium in Truckee’s high school, the Truckee Home & Building Show is now able to substantially expand the inside displays. ‘With three large display rooms inside and expansive space outside, this will be Truckee’s biggest home show ever,’ said Pam Neff, Truckee Home & Building Show Coordinator.
Bring your plans. Talk to the experts about everything from hardwood floors to windows. Find out what makes lumber LEED certified. Compare a majestic timberframe structure to the more commonly built-framed homes. Learn all about insulation, plumbing and heating choices for your home. Consider paving options including a new colored asphalt surface that has the look of hand placed-paving stones. Check out new wood stoves and fireplaces. Shop for interior decorating touches from cabinets and window coverings, to door hardware, furnishings and lighting. See the newest home entertainment systems. Compare granite, slate, tile and marble surfaces for exterior and interior uses. The list goes on…
Again this year, the Truckee Home & Building Show, in a partnership with the Sierra Green Building Association, will continue the expanded focus on green and sustainable building with the 2008 Regional Green Building Symposium. This two-day event will feature speakers and a green home tour.
Neff said Truckee is becoming a mecca for green building and sustainability information. People travel from across the country to see what we are doing here. The Regional Green Building Symposium offers a convenient venue for professionals and citizens to share information, network and grow in their knowledge of the rapidly expanding technology being offered in sustainable building and living.
‘Presented as a joint effort of the two utility companies in the area, Truckee Donner PUD and Sierra Pacific Power Company, the Truckee Home & Building Show has grown to become a major influence in the Truckee-Tahoe area,’ she said. ‘Wind, solar and micro-hydroelectric generating systems, geothermal heating and cooling systems, expanded polystyrene insulated concrete forms, insulation made from soy beans and home automation systems are some of the examples of cutting edge technologies that have made their debut at the Show.’ Representatives will be on hand to show you how you can save energy and money while making your home more comfortable.
The Truckee Home and Building Show will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Truckee High School, 11725 Donner Pass Road, in Truckee. The 2008 Regional Green Building Symposium will be held Saturday and Sunday as well. The Green Home Tour leaves from the school’s west parking lot; the meeting time is 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $6, and proceeds benefit local schools as well as green building.
