East West Partners, which filed for bankruptcy in 2010 on the Ritz Carlton, Old Greenwood, and Grey’s Crossing, have applied to build 112 homes on 112 acres inside the Tahoe Basin on the ridge overlooking Lake Tahoe.
It’s called the Martis Valley West project. Take a left on Mt. Watson Road — the Fiberboard Freeway — on top of Brockway Summit, go in about a mile, and you are there. Additional development will spill over the ridge into Martis Valley, with a total of 760 units and 6.6 acres of commercial.
East West wants to change the forest zoning to allow residential development. At Tahoe, up to 1.3 million square feet of land will be covered and 200 acres of trees removed. This is an expansion of the urban boundary. It’s sprawl, justified by a conservation easement on 6,000 acres outside the Lake Tahoe Basin in Martis Valley. Save Mt. Watson Road.
