There are many glaring mistakes and untruths in the Canyon Springs Development revised draft environmental impact report that need to be corrected and/or addressed before the planning commission approves the project. Life in Truckee will be forever changed if any project is allowed to blatantly ignore the Truckee General Plan and severely impact the traffic and wildlife, as well as our mountain way of life. So much will be lost if this project continues.
We have already seen many projects in Truckee that are less than half built-out, resulting in inadequate protection of the environment. In addition, projects like Gray’s Crossing have not built low-income housing despite the fact that it was part of its plan. Elkhorn Ridge, just east of Truckee, has nine out of 67 lots built. Its homeowners association does not have enough money to adequately fix drainage problems, clean beer cans, old condoms, trash, and dumped yard waste from the streets, or police its project. The Truckee General Plan is a promise to the people of Truckee to preserve our mountain community by ensuring that all mitigations on any project are feasible, adequate to preserve the environment, and followed. As a community, we must insist that the planning commission, and ultimately the town council, be responsible for keeping these promises.
