I wrote to the Placer County Board of Supervisors requesting their attention on the possible closure of the Tahoe Vista Animal Shelter. I asked that they slow down the process and allow us to partner with them to come up with a solution that better fits our community. In the last 30 days we were informed, first through the newspaper and then by a local presentation, that there is a good probability that our shelter is to be closed and the service moved to the Town of Truckee’s Humane Society.
Placer County has two animal shelters, western in Auburn and eastern in Tahoe Vista, both in District 5. During the MAC meeting in Squaw Valley, the presenter made note that the Auburn facility has been given approval for a substantial upgrade. When asked what was budgeted for this, we were told $20 million. Board Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery stated this was a project 16 years in the making. We applaud the board of supervisors for approving a much needed shelter for Auburn and the surrounding areas. We know this was an incredible collaboration between Placer County and the community and certainly a great effort by all. So again, we respectfully ask for the same consideration that was given to the western community. We want to keep this valued service in eastern Placer County where it better serves our community.
