I find comments by Randy Hill and Rob Eskridge in your last edition disturbing. Mr. Hill said he did not like the expose your paper wrote, detailing the conflict of interest involving the CEO of the Tahoe Forest Hospital District and others. Frankly, I want local papers to look into this type of issue and provide reasonable assessment of a situation. Without this type of investigative journalism, communities are vulnerable to being ripped off by arrogant, power hungry people who do not have the best interest of citizens in their plans. Mr. Hill’s expectation of higher ethics by TFHD has not, and will not happen, with the current board. Fortunately, an election is just around the corner. Hopefully, other regulatory agencies will be looking into TFHD.
Mr. Eskridge’s whine appears to be no more than an effort to justify decisions by the board and himself in “vetting” renewal of contracts that clearly are conflicts of interest, despite the recent self-serving internal “investigation.” Mr. Eskridge also has close ties to TFHD, considering the board meets in a conference room named after him. There has been no independent, arms-length investigation.
Certainly, the issues at TFHD are complex and involve much more than the conflict of interest issues. These other issues will need a new board to properly address them. I have no confidence in the current board and see a major change is necessary.
