Start the New Year with a top-notch soundtrack, something to get your heart pumping and your mind stimulated. On Friday,
Jan. 2, and Sat., Jan 3, the Jarrett Cherner Trio brings its full-of-life jazz swing to Moody’s Bistro.
Jarrett, originally from San Francisco, is a pianist, composer and educator. There’s a strong spirit behind the baby face – this musician is highly expressive, precise and en pointe, as his hands quickly dance up and down the keys. He has studied music extensively and toured nationally and internationally. After completing degrees in Mathematics at Tufts University (2003) and Jazz Piano Performance at the New England Conservatory of Music (2004), he returned to the west coast, becoming an active and in-demand pianist on the vibrant West Coast jazz scene.
In 2005, he recorded his first album as a leader, ‘Burgeoning,’ featuring his original compositions and which received an honorable mention from The ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards. In his compositions, Jarrett brings a fresh new sound to the long-standing jazz piano trio tradition – Latin rhythms mix with introspective melodies, and the music doesn’t let you settle on a constant. Jarrett skips merrily into your consciousness with the groovy ‘Stand Your Own,’ dives into your heart with ‘Burgeoning,’ then shakes your hips with ‘Sucker Punch.’
Jarrett has studied with Danilo Pérez, Michael Cain, Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Bloom and Warren Senders – and is currently is pursuing a master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City where he studies with Jason Moran.
He comes to Truckee with bassist Sam Adams and drummer Hamir Atwal.
